In Jackson, Mississippi the leader of the Mississippi House is advocating for House Bill 571. House Bill 571 in short would prevent charges being filed against trafficking victims who are younger than 18, such as prostitution charges. The minor then would be taken into protective custody and have counseling provided. This bill would also provide foster care parents with mental physical support training to children that have experience sexual exploitation and/or human trafficking. Bill 571 would also reimburse 500 dollars for counseling for victims.
“I think we are just beginning to become truly aware of this issue or the extent of it in Mississippi,” Philip Gunn R-Clinton told the Clarion Ledger. “It’s happening right here in our state, and right here in the shadow of our Capitol.”
