Trafficked by someone she thought she could trust.

 

A woman from Lake Charles, Louisiana was sold into sex slavery by a loved one.  Struggling with a previous drug problem after seeking treatment fell back into addiction, then married a man who sold her into sex slavery.

“It may start off as someone who is a close friend to them or maybe consider that person a significant other.. A relationship starts and then as things progress, they’re recruited into that lifestyle,” Ericka Simon says. Ericka Simon is the Vice President of Family and Youth Counseling of Southwest Louisiana.  This is very common for trafficking victims.

The Senator of Louisiana Johns says there are around 500 to 600 victims rescued in Louisiana from trafficking, as well expresses his worries about the highway I-10. “For whatever reason the I-10 corridor is a really hotbed of trafficking and we watch that very, very closely.. I found out real quickly it’s in my backyard,” Johns said. “It’s in everybody’s backyard.”
