In the last two weeks of October a two week operation in Texas 75 arrests were made in a human trafficking sting. Complaints of prostitution and other activities related to sex trafficking were made to the multi-jurisdictional task force dubbed Operation Cross County. The goal was to eradicate areas that where deemed human and sex trafficking problem areas. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Organized Crime Unit worked with volunteers and non-government organization to help identify trafficking victims and provide other necessary services.
“Undercover officers posed as sex workers, and johns in some cases, and used technology to locate many of these sex and human traffickers.” 32 johns or others looking to pay for sex, were arrested. 11 pimps consisting of 9 men and 2 women were arrested and charged with compelling prostitution. 28 women were charged with prostitution. Among those arrests they were able to rescue 5 sex trafficking victims and a 16 year-old runaway.
