Internet, Minors and Human Trafficking

 

Crystal Blanton, co-chair of the Marion County Human Trafficking Task Force, explained ” it’s not like the movies (“Taken” 2008)”.  This misconception of what human trafficking can be is widespread.  Human trafficking takes many forms, whether it be huge rings in foreign countries, street prostitution in bad parts of town, or neighborhood run operations, even minors are being coerced and/or forced to recruit more minors for sex trafficking.

“I just think it’s the internet, I hate to say it,” Blanton said.  Facts, and survival stories show that no one is exempt to this crimes.  With the expansion of social media and apps, although can be great, we have to remember to be cautious of those people on the other end.  “Social media has grown the field of human trafficking. It’s easier for these traffickers to make contact with victims.”   Read more and watch video..
